2025 Subaru WRX tS Adds Performance and Cosmetic Goodies

Enthusiast season is upon us here in Southeastern Minnesota. As the temperatures warm up, the cool cars will come out, along with their owners. There may be some that want a new ride. A new flex, if you will. For 2025, Subaru added a new level of performance for the WRX sedan – the tS.  

The letters “tS” stands for “tuned by STI.” That should be enough to get your attention. It also caught the attention of the Detroit Free Press, which recently wrote a review on this enhanced WRX. They said Subaru improved upon “one of the last great sport compacts.”  

How so? The 2025 WRX tS receives a high-performance Brembo braking system, including 6-piston front and 2-piston rear calipers in a signature gold color and larger pads and rotors. The system was developed to enhance stopping power, fade resistance, and pedal feel. The 2025 WRX tS also comes standard with 245/35 R19 Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires for increased wet and dry grip and improved braking performance. The Free Press cited these as major improvements upon the WRX.

The 2025 WRX tS also includes Drive Mode Select. This feature electronically controls STI-tuned dampers that can tailor the dynamic performance to the driver’s preferences with Comfort, Normal, and Sport settings.   

The Free Press noted that the 2025 WRX tS’s enhanced exterior featured a wide-body design that offers an aggressive stance and bold look. At the front, the Subaru signature hexagonal grille is paired with a compact headlight design and broad front hood scoop.  

The 2025 WRX tS comes standard with legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a 271-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbocharged Subaru BOXER engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.  The Free Press reviewer noted that the “notchy, short-throw six-speed transmission is a nod to enthusiasts who want to shift for themselves despite technological improvements that have made automatic gear boxes dominant even among sports cars.” Active Torque Vectoring is also standard on the 2025 WRX tS.  

New for the 2025 WRX tS is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. This new instrument cluster offers improved legibility and expanded information to the driver. The screens include a map display and route guidance information. While it is tuned by STI, the iconic log appears on the ignition push button.

The Recaro Performance Design front seats offer increased support for both driver and passenger through a Y-shaped design at the center of the seat backrest. This was developed to ensure that the sides and shoulder blades of the occupant are securely supported to maintain proper driving posture. In addition, the driver’s seat includes 8-way power adjustments.
